Sunny with a chance of pain...

Our new home is wonderful, but my favorite part is the backyard.

It's the kind of yard that calls to you from your bed in the morning..."Come, sit, enjoy your morning pick-me-up and the peaceful call of the song birds."

It's the kind of yard that calls to you from your gameroom in the afternoon..."Come, play, enjoy the golden sun rays bounce from the shimmer of the water as the laughter of your children fills the air."

It's the kind of yard that calls to you from your living room in the evening..."Come, relax, enjoy the fragrant perfume of the hybiscus, honeysuckle, and lime trees as you lounge in the cool shade of the patio."

Sounds wonderful, hugh? Well, perhaps one day I will be able to do all those things. In the meantime, the reality of the backyard is quite different.

It's the kind of yard that calls to you from your bed in the morning..."Would you get out here and mow already?! The songbirds are drinking from the pool because their 3 foot tall birdbath is lost among the grass!"

It's the kind of yard that calls to you from your gameroom in the afternoon..."Is anyone going to vacuum this pool? Or is the green algae enhancinig the "natural pond" look you were going for?"

It's the kind of yard that calls to you from your living room in the evening..."Beach towels aren't going to wash themselves! And while you're at it, the sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and bike aren't going to magically grow legs and walk to where they belong! You know, there used to be a functional table and chairs out here!"

Hmmm. Guess nothing comes without it's price. However, the back-breaking labor it take to maintain that wonderfully enjoyable backyard was devastatingly understated at the purchase of this home. Nevertheless, we press on. Because in our backyard, the forcast remains sunny...with a chance of pain!
